Travel

Workshop attendees are asked to make their own travel arrangements. If you have any questions regarding travel to Argonne National Lab please contact Diane Wilkinson ([email protected]) or Dean Haeffner ([email protected]).

Argonne National Laboratory is about 45 minutes by car from each of the two major Chicago airports, O'Hare and Midway. Limousine service is available from each airport, and major car rental agencies serve both airports. Limo reservations can be made by calling:

The map also shows the major roadways serving the Chicago area.

To reach Argonne from O'Hare Airport, drive east (toward Chicago) on Interstate 190 to the exit for Interstate 294 south (toward Indiana). Go south on Interstate 294 to the exit for Interstate 55 south (toward St. Louis); then take the southbound Cass Avenue exit (273A) off Interstate 55. Northgate Road, the entrance to the Laboratory's main gate, is on the right. Partial toll roads to ANL will cost approximately $ 3.60 each way.

From Midway Airport, take Cicero Avenue north to the entrance to Interstate 55 south (toward St. Louis), which will be on your left, then proceed as described above.

Access to Argonne National Lab

For non-Argonne attendees, a gate pass is automatically processed for your visit to Argonne as a result of your completing the RegOnline registration, based on the dates you provide for your arrival and departure.

U.S. citizens must show a photo ID at the visitor center to claim their gate passes.

IF YOU ARE NOT A US CITIZEN, you must complete an APS Visitor Registration form in order to have your access approved so that a gate pass is ready and waiting for you upon your arrival. The link to this form is also included in the confirmation e-mail that is sent when you complete your RegOnline registration. You will also be sent instructions about what forms of identification are necessary to claim your gate pass to bring with you on your visit.

Gate passes can be picked up at the Argonne Information Center during normal business hours or at the Guard House at the Main Gate during weekends or off-hours.
